Cambodian Landmine Families Receive Support and Learn Dental Hygiene
On November 20, 2010 vital support was provided for 52 landmine-affected families in Koas Krala District, Battambang province, Cambodia. Dr. Khom Pisal from the Angkor Dental Association teaches dental hygiene and dental supplies are provided to all through generous support from Rotarians from The Rotary Club of Huntsville, Ontario, Canada. 34 businesses provided to families and educational support for children funded by the Canadian Landmine Foundation and the Rotary Club of Etobicoke. Projects conducted by A Mine Free World Foundation. Rotary Wheels for Learning provided 24 of these bicycles to children of landmine survivors. This has been the first self-sustainable support many of these people have received.
November 21 saw our team go to three locations in Koas Krala district. In the morning, we arrived at a Primary School where 300-400 students and teachers were waiting to receive Dental Hygiene Education. In the afternoon, two more sessions were given in rural village locations.
Dr. Khom Pisal teaches dental hygiene, she uses as a prop an overisized set of teeth and a large toothbrush. Her half-hour session includes letting some children take turns demonstrating the proper way to brush. After the session, toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste are handed out to all children and adults.
Our Dental Hygiene Education Team in Koas Krala was comprised of Dr. Khom Pisal, Pauline Johns, Lisa McCoy, Un Vanthon and family in collaboration with Sopheany Chhoeun, Ben Sida and Loeung Deun of the Koas Krala Cambodian Red Cross.
Dental Hygiene Education is supported by A Mine Free World Foundation in Canada.
Your small donation of $5 could provide dozens of toothbrushes and toothpaste for landmine-affected families and poor rural families in Cambodia - dental education is vital and non-existant in the rural areas of Cambodia.
Your donation can be made out to 'A Mine Free World Foundation'. In the memo field of your cheque, please write: 'Dental Hygiene Education'
